Assignment 1

Music videos are created to actually promote the song itself so that the song and video can be categorised, a video usually has a meaning and storyline behind it and relates to the song. I have chosen the song 'Picture me' by Santandave, the reason why I have is because it is a good song and he paints a story with his lyrics but the video visually tells a story too. In this song Dave is explaining that you should always chase your dream and not let anyone paint a picture of your life and you should create your own and don't let anyone make you do something that you don't want to.

The reason why I like this song is because he is telling the youth that they should stay on the right road and stay on track, he also talks about you cannot talk about being rich and have big dreams if you are doing wrong and that no one can tell you what to do when it comes to your education and make sure you are hanging around with the right crowd and create your own life how you want.

In this shot there is good background lighting from outside and it is a good media shot. As I can see from this shot the actor is leaning out the window thinking about certain things that's going on in his life or at the present time.
This increased the range of media that Santandave is active in because the video is very unique and has its own style so it had people talking, especially on social media which gave Dave a lot of recognition it also gave his channel a lot of recognition aswell because he created it by him self and in less than a year he is getting 4 million+ views without anyone's help which gives him even more credit

The second song that I am going to choose is 'Dear Mama' By Tupac. The reason I am choosing this song is partially because he is giving out a strong message to his Mum that he is sorry for all the pain that he caused her and he didn't mean it because he never saw a bigger picture to life because he was selfish and not thinking about the people around him and how much pain he put them through especially because he had a single mother who was living on benefits back in the 1980's but even though she did not have much she always tried to give Tupac, Tekerra, N'Neka, Nzingha & Sekyiwa  (His 4 sisters) the best that she could even though she was a drug addict.
Dear Mama is promoting the change in Tupac's musical direction and image, I know this because in the song he talks about how his mum struggled but still managed to raise a family and he is grateful, he started to change his musical direction because he looked back at life and started thinking about other people around him aswell as himself. I can tell his music started to change because if you look at his song called " Hit Em Up" to his song called "Changes" the content that he raps about in Hit Em Up is very violent and disrespectful but in Changes the content that he raps about is about how the world needs changing but it never will because its the way the world is.

In this shot there is very dark lighting with a limited background, however in this shot I can see that even though they are going through tough times they are still happy and showing love because the actor playing Tupac have a good quality of life.

The next song I am choosing is  "J Cole - Apparently". I'm choosing this song because he is talking about his mum going through things that he did not know so he is spreading the message that you should spend more time with your loved ones and not be selfish and just think of yourself so you can support them more because you never know what they are going through , this song has a very good video because it completes and matches the song with a slow and dark atmosphere, this song and video is very unique as it has its own vibe and message which no-one else has ever used and he also has his own flow and verses.

This shot here is a very unique shot because not many people have created a video with a pitch black background so it makes the video stand out more which gives the song a dark effect. From the screenshot I can tell that he is in his zone and he feels isolated from the rest of the world without any company.
J Cole used this song to promote his album "2014 Forest Hills Drive", the song is from his album however he made a video for the song to get people talking about it which will give his album more recognition and this contributed to him going platinum with no features.

Another song that I want to choose is "Nas - Daughters", the reason why I am choosing this song is because the video aswell as the lyrics paint a picture in our minds that even though we are there for our daughters you should always have a bond with her so that you can keep her on the right path to become a self respected young woman however once she is not with you or leaves the house you never know what she's up to and or where she is. It is also a good song because Nas is explaining that what your children see when they are younger may affect them in the future and how you should never be too cool or too strict with your children if you want to raise them right and how it is not easy to raise a daughter as a single dad and hat you should always be prepared for the change in your daughters as they grow up.

This scene has a good background lighting and as we can see Nas (the rapper) has his arms out wide waiting for his daughter to come into them however the reason why I chose this particular shot is because it is different for the fact that it is from the daughters point of view so we see the shot from a different perspective. Nas used this song to promote his change in musical direction or image because he is talking about his daughter and how he is a family man and how he has grown up and how family is key, he is also promoting to all the dads that you should keep your daughter close but give them a bit of freedom so that they could be the daughter that he wants.

The next song I am going to choose is "Ed Sheeran - Photograph" I am choosing this song because the video is basically a visual autobiography of his life as he has put many different videos of him growing up all in chronological order so we can see where he started in his life compared to where he is from his first steps to his first studio session to the first time he played an instrument, the video is a picture book of videos and a look back of how far he has come through out his life and he is also implying no matter how big and famous he becomes he will always remember where he started and came from.

These two pictures represent the changes throughout his life  and how he has matured and changed from a boy to a man. The video was made to promote the artist and give his fans a taster of the album that is next to come and also keep his fans ready and excited for when his album is released. Photograph was released to promote Ed Sheeran's album "X" because this song is in his video so he would get credit from the song and it will make his album more known and to tell a story about growth and development through a picture video.

The final song I am going to choose is " 2 Pac - Changes" The reason why I am choosing this is because Tupac is giving out a strong message to the community and the world that things should start changing and the way we are living in todays time is not right and how black people should all unite as one, the video is based on all the memories through out his life and showing how things are gradually changing as times goes on because the world is getting worse because of stereotype, racism and feminism but its life and things will never change.

This song and video promotes his album called "Greatest Hits" He released it on his album because the song talks about all of the different problems that were related to Tupac's era of influence - the most blatant racism, police brutality, drugs and gang violence in between the black community and all around the world. Changes was created to promote his change of direction in life and to promote that the world needs changing but it is too late to change because the world is a very corrupt place, it is also to promote stopping violence between the black community.
